The Canadian Council of Massage Therapy Schools (CCMTS) proudly presents the Excellence in Research and Interpretive Studies Annual Competition. This competition, co-sponsored by Massage Addict, offers students a unique opportunity to showcase their ability to engage and interpret existing research, as it relates to the profession of massage therapy.
Guidelines for Research Papers
- Written by individuals or a group of students
- Must have a direct relationship to massage therapy practice

Guidelines for Research Papers
This award recognizes the student’s ability to engage in (Case Study) or interpret existing research (Literature Review). It does not require specific research activity by the student.
In establishing this award, the CCMTS encourages its member schools and students to engage in the practice of research and interpretive studies and to experience the benefits of critical evaluation, as it relates to the profession of massage therapy.
This unique showcase will recognize and reward the student (or group of students) who most effectively engage and interpret existing professional massage therapy research through critical evaluation.
The winning paper will be recognized and published on the CCMTS website. In addition, awards will be given to the top three papers.
- First Place: $2,000 honorarium & commemorative plaque
- Second Place: $1,000 honorarium
- Third Place: $600 honorarium
Guidelines for Research Papers
The Canadian Council of Massage Therapy Schools (CCMTS) established in 1998, is a non-profit organization of massage therapy educators who have placed quality programming and accountability as the cornerstones of their training programs and the operation of schools. As a national organization representing both public and private member programs, the CCMTS has a unique perspective and decided influence on the educational landscape that exists across our great country. CCMTS’ mission is to provide a collegial forum and national voice for member schools in order to advance the art, science, education and practice of massage therapy.
The CCMTS joins with the other pillars of the profession, provincial regulating bodies, professional associations, and graduates everywhere in the pursuit of excellence in the massage therapy profession for the good of our clients and the health of our communities.

The paper must have a direct relationship to the practice of massage therapy on humans and meet the criteria as set out below.
Two categories:
- Clinical research (case study or case series) based on the students’ own research
- Literature review written by the student based on their thorough examination of the topic (including recent journal publications) and their analysis of it. (Note that textbook sources are not appropriate for review papers!)
Research performed for this competition must be carried out between July 1, of the previous year and July 15, of the year in which research is submitted. Written entries must be submitted no later than July 31 of each year.
